Default Amount of account bans per week?

My friend claims that somewhere (to be exact, G4's MMO Report) said that Arena Net/NCSoft is banning 5,000 accounts a WEEK. Not suspensions, bans.

I find this hard to believe for multiple reasons. Is there anywhere, by an official post, saying that this is true?

LMAO

honestly though, I wouldn't disagree with G4. Then again they could be wrong...

Hopefully people are getting banned!
We don't need botters and 'unfriendly people' in Guild Wars.

Also, on the bright side it makes some things more exciting, people constantly awaiting for Dhuum in towns to appear and use Impending Dhuum on people!

Skill. No resurrection spell can save you now. Your account has been banned.

Considering the huge deal that banning 3,700 accounts was, I sincerely doubt that they're banning 5,000 accounts every week.

(What Del said.)

If a one-time ban wave of 3700 is front-page news for more than a month, I doubt that they're banning 5000 weekly.

If their banning 5,000 accounts a week, then the game would be empty and the servers would be shutdown in less than a month...

I doubt that they are banning 5,000 accounts per week. Maybe 50 or at max 100.

I am sure they are banning accounts on a regular basis since there are plenty of rmt sellers around, however; as has been pointed out the figure is probably WAAAAY out of proportion for the reasons listed (3700 was A LOT to them).....the 5000 may be a total of banned accounts in the past year (that may or may not include the 3700 aforementioned).

This is why I assumed it wasn't true.
And although I watch G4 ALL the time, especially the MMO Reports (Whenever Anet releases something about GW2, he sounds excited, and calls out Blizzard; always entertaining) he failed to show me this episode of the MMO Report, so more proof there he is just throwing crap around.
Thanks for the posts!

I just watched the only G4 MMO Report that came up when searching for Guild Wars on this subject, from June 3rd. It says exactly what we've already heard. Maybe your friend was exaggerating for effect?

These days, game is less populous, so banning numbers should be down.

But I do seem to remember 3000 bots per month thrown out a long time ago, two years,I think, in context of "yes, we're doing something about bots, we ban XXX per month".

Also keep in mind the number of banned account is inflated by the fact that several are most likely stolen accounts that are later returned to their original owners.
